East Maui Hotels that are Open - East Maui Accommodations Guide

Maui Accommodations Guide Following the August 2023 Wildfires

What caused the Maui fires? How did the Maui fire start?

Power Lines and Equipment: Electrical faults or equipment malfunctions, such as sparking power lines, can lead to wildfires, especially during dry and windy conditions.

In August 2023 during windy conditions trees fell on power lines and started fires. Extreme wind conditions spread the fires through the town of Lahaina within a matter of hours.

Many people are asking:

Is it safe to travel to Maui right now?

Should I stay on the east side of Maui?

Which is the best area to stay in East or South Maui?

At Valley Island Excursions we are here to help travelers to better understand current updates about Maui and Maui News.

Maui Hotels that are Open – Maui Accommodations Guide

As of August 2023, Maui, though recently affected by wildfires, still offers an array of beachfront accommodations for travelers seeking a relaxing and rejuvenating stay in Central, East or South Maui. While the fires have caused disruptions, the natural beauty of the area endures, making it an attractive destination for those seeking a beachfront escape.

Visitors to Maui can find a variety of lodging options ranging from boutique resorts to vacation rentals right along the pristine shores without going to the popular resort areas in West Maui. Many of these accommodations, especially in South Maui, offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and provide direct access to the beach, allowing guests to unwind and enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves. Keep in mind that it’s advisable to check with the specific properties for updates on their availability and services in the wake of the wildfires, as some may have undergone renovations or temporary closures.

Despite the recent challenges, Maui remains a captivating destination for beach lovers, offering opportunities for water sports, sunbathing, and exploration of the island’s lush landscapes. Travelers can experience the resilience of the local community and the rejuvenation of the natural beauty that makes Maui a cherished destination for beachfront getaways.

What Hotels Were Destroyed in Maui? What Maui Hotels are Closed?

It’s not possible to visit Lahaina or any of the burned areas in West Maui. Hotels that were in Lahaina town were destroyed by the fires.

The hotels further west of Lahaina town, in Kaanapali, Kapalua, and Napili areas, were not destroyed by the fires. Resorts in these areas may have lost power, phone service, and running water for some time following the fires. Several West Maui hotels are being used to house displaced families or relief workers and volunteers. Non-essential travel to West Maui communities are still discouraged until October 8, 2023.

August 2023 Fire Maui Airport – Have Flights Returned to Normal on Maui?

Travelers planning a visit to Maui can take comfort in the fact that flights are available, and the Maui airport remains open and operational, despite the wildfires that occurred in August 2023. While wildfires can sometimes lead to temporary disruptions in travel, the Maui authorities, alongside dedicated firefighting efforts, have managed to contain and mitigate the impact of the fires on the island’s infrastructure. Consequently, the Kahului Airport (OGG) continues to serve as the primary gateway to the beautiful island of Maui, welcoming visitors from around the world.

Travelers should, as always, check with their respective airlines and local authorities for any specific travel advisories or requirements related to their flights and visits. Maui, with its stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture, remains an attractive destination for those seeking a tropical paradise and is readily accessible via Kahului Airport.

Are There Flight Delays on Maui?

It is unlikely that there will be delays for your flight as the airport is far below capacity for travelers visiting the island. Please check with the airlines for availability.
