Central Maui, Iao Valley, Upcountry & Haleakalā Park Tour
Explore the island’s significant, stunning cultural sites and learn how it’s ecological systems function and more… during full daylight hours. Experience the sacred mountain, the forbidden ʻĪao Valley (once only accessible to royalty), the ancient Hawaiian lifestyle, Maui’s quaint upcountry and the weather engine and headwaters for all life on the island, all while piquing cultural and photographic desires.
Guests are immersed in a day that includes: Hawaiian cultural & farming practices, war and peacetime living (bird watching, food practices, fishing, climate zones). Learn how the actual island of Maui works. Discover how Hawaiians “Malama Aina” (care for the land) and about the Ahupua’a watershed system of ancient Hawai’i from the summit to fishpond.
VIE makes every effort to have the lightest ecological “footprint” possible by recycling everything and generating “no trash on tour,” picking up after others when possible and making sure the guests know how fragile the island’s ecosystem really is. We’re committed to making Maui better, day by day, year by year. It’s our home and we want to make people say “Maui No Ka Oi!” and mean it when they go back to their homes.
Our new Maui Volcano Tour explores Maui’s highlights (different from those on the Road to Hana). See areas like: Iao Valley, Haleakala National Park Summit Area, Upcountry Maui ranches & towns as well as other specialty areas like Wailuku, Kula and Paia too.
Explore the enchanted Iao Valley and stream filled with stories and legends. See the beautiful Iao Needle and the state park that surrounds it. This area is an important historical and spiritual center for the Hawaiian people. Learn more about it on tour.
Our official introduction to the Park, learn the importance of the land to Hawaiians. We follow Hawaiian protocol and announce ourselves before we enter the “House of the Sun.”
At the entrance of Iao Valley we explore the beautiful cultures that mix together to make up Maui in this county park. Each represented with their own unique pavilion or garden style, including a Hawaiian hale.
This beautiful outlook on the ridge of the Haleakala valley provides a picture perfect view of what visitors call “Haleakalā Volcano.”
Each town on Maui has its own character and charm. Explore some of these towns on our tours, and learn about “must see” attractions that you won’t want to miss.
Winding roads take us through Maui’s Upcountry towns, ranches, and forests – all with their own unique character and story.
Stories of war, drama, mythology and advancement resonate within the nationally registered historic places across Hawaii. We see some of the most renowned buildings, churches and parks on tour.
This tour features the quintessential Upcountry picnic, enjoyed at one of our premier picnic locations. The picnic site will be picked depending on the view and the weather to make sure it’s a prime spot to enjoy the day.
Our custom-built cruisers feature 12 and 24 capacity sizes for passengers. We limit groups to 12 people per guide for comfort. We include a second guide on the bigger vehicles to ensure the best experience.
All this means you won’t just see Maui, but you’ll actually enjoy it!
Note: Please give at least 48 hours between your dive and going up to the summit of Haleakalā due to compressions sickness issues.
